Description

The moon begins to dawn, it is her turn to shine.

Trying something new with how I paint -sort of- ... it is still scribbles and dots and dashes, but with colors that are more closely related (usually I use a dark and an extreme light for a more painterly look)

Print size is 20x20inches.
larger view has a better shot of the faces.

T-shirt catagory = goddesses

I definitely agree with whomever had said it elsewhere, that you need to do a reverse as well.

I think this is my favorite of your recent works. I really love the costumes.

Avatar Foot

 08/16/03 @690

Beautifully done. One thing I would say is that making them overlap in some way would be really interesting.

Avatar shadowgirl

 08/16/03 @694

Matt: I will make another one -nodnod-

Foot: That's an idea -g- kind of like a 'dawn' or 'evening' kind of merging it would make.

not in this one though, i wanted them seperate.. I almost made it two paintings, but I didn't think it'd work out.

I loooove how this is so completely "YOU" but how you've managed to slide in a new style to go along with how you usually paint. I think this piece is perfect - definately a favorite of mine.

Really crisp stuff, It's my favourite from your gallery so far. I just think the background decoration should be darker on the side of the moon. Nice!

patato.. i was thinking of doing that.. but then it would unbalance the image too much, i think.

Hello shadowgirl,
This is a very nicely designed. I like the limited palette and the stylization of the figures.

This is cool- one of my favorites of yours. I like how you've given each one personality: the moon might be lonely, reaching or yearning for something else while the sun is proud and content. I agree that some sort of twilight area might be cool but really this is good stuff...:)

Avatar ChrisThatGuy

 08/18/03 @695

This is a really nice piece. I missed it when it was first posted.
One thing: the hair of the blue figure is the only really dark part of the piece, making it the 'heavy' part of the picture. I think you could add some other darker elements around the piece to balance it out.

Avatar shadowgirl

 08/18/03 @696

Mm.. you know what? I didn't even realize that at all till you mentioned it. -eyes the painting- hrm... thanks -g-

I don't think the people who critique your work have any personality. I personally think this particular piece kicks ass!! It reminds me a lot of a character in one of my novels. Please do persist at creating such whoop ass art.

DrInker : Mmm.. Dunno. not everyone needs to like everything -chuckle-
Thank you for the comments.. As for the moon getting all the attention, she's supposed to.. If I do another piece, it'll be the sun getting all the attention (Moon is rising, sun setting, fading away.)

In your description, it seems to be dusk, but from the picture, I would definitely say dawn.

Have you noticed that all the forces of nature seem to be represented by females in your art? (of course you have, but is there any deeper point you're making of it?)

Avatar shadowgirl

 08/29/03 @738

Mmm.. I'm not too sure yet, actually.. I've been trying to work it out in my head when I paint. With this one I didn't want to do the typical male = sun and moon = female..

SG, there are so many works of yours that I truly love. I cannot and will not say which one is my favourite, but this one is definitely up there. This is a truly exceptional piece of artwork.

Shadowgirl

I love the simple color scheme that you're using here - - - its somewhat analogue to a piece that I was putting together in Poser/Bryce/Max - - - it kinda got shelved, but I may go on to fix it and finsih it one of these days - - - - on this piece, it reminds me a lot of the fairy tale about Snow White and Rose Red - - - the very color scheme and the opposing directions of both women - I love it! Laura- this is personally my favorite image. I think what you've done here is made a perfect piece. Sadly enough when something is my favorite image the general public has a hard time understanding it or liking it. It makes me feel like like I feel when viewing Steph Law's work like there is thousands of years of practice inside of you. If I had my way the world would be wallpapered with this image.

Why it doesn't work for the general public. Because they are eedjits. It's too graphic and fabulous and perfect. I'm sorry it makes me want to cry.

This is lovely. I wonder if you might want to give them differnt background designs, since the characters look so different from one another. If you really want to push the difference you might want to make Moon pale pastel and Sun vibrant color.

Avatar Sandstorrm

Great costume design! Their bodies are a bit too impossibly willowy. I like the different hairstyles, good touch.

awesome. however, i think the bg for the moon goddess should be a cool hue.

SteffiStatic

 03/19/08 @768

I agree with what everyone is saying about there being another darker color background, however I don't think that would work. The moon's arm is directly under the sun's hair. It wouldn't look right trying to get the arm in the dark. I think this is absolutey breathtaking. I'm absolutely speechless when it comes to the detail of this peice. The different colors in the moon's skirt and the sun's sleaves, as well as the textures of the hair. It's stunning.

SteffiStatic

 03/19/08 @769

Also: I love the background. How you made me texture on the moon's side darker then on the sun's side. Gives this good balance.
